About Great Falls Association of REALTORS®

The Great Falls Association of REALTORS® (GFAR) has been based in Great Falls, Montana, for over a century. We are a professional trade organization that serves more than 300 REALTOR® and Affiliate members. GFAR is affiliated with the Montana Association of REALTORS® (MAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), and works to provide our members with the tools they need to remain successful.

The mission of the Great Falls Association of REALTORS® is to provide programs and services to achieve the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, and advocate for housing opportunities and private property rights.

Our Jurisdiction

The territorial jurisdiction of the Association as a Member of the National Association of REALTORS® includes Cascade County, Glacier County, Toole County, Pondera County, Teton County, Choteau County - South of the Missouri and Teton Rivers (comprising the cities of Loma, Fort Benton, Highwood, Geraldine, Carter, Floweree, Shonkin and Square Butte), Judith Basin County and Meagher County.

History of Service

Great Falls had the first Real Estate Board in the State of Montana.

The National Real Estate Journal dated August 15, 1910: Real Estate Exchange of Great Falls was founded on July 23. At a meeting of the real estate dealers of Great Falls, Mont., on July 23 the organization of the Real Estate Exchange of Great Falls was formally perfected with the election of the following officers: President, Mayor C. F. Murphy; vice-president, T. H. Larkin; secretary, Warren W. Moses; treasurer, C. D. Eliot. The ex-change will shortly open at an office where all property listed with the local dealers will be registered. It is hoped that by the establishment of the exchange that both the dealer as well as the purchaser will be protected from any fraud.

February 15th, 1911, the National Association of Real Estate Exchange (NAR) approved the charter for Great Falls Real Estate Exchange. There were 37 active members.

The National Real Estate Journal dated February 15, 1913: "In the Palm room of the Hotel Rainbow, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., the majority of the members of the Great Falls Real Estate Exchange met at a luncheon at which quite a number of short addresses were made relating to real estate conditions and to various plans for the upbuilding of the city."

October 21, 1935, the Great Falls Real Estate Board disorganized and was deactivated from NAR. Many Realtor boards were disorganized during the Great Depression. There were 9 active members.

November 27, 1944, the Great Falls Board of Realtors reorganized and applied for membership with a new name.

January 27, 1945, NAR approved the charter for the Great Falls Board of Realtors. There were 8 active members.

August 29, 1989, the Great Falls Board of Realtors applied to change their name to the Great Falls Association of Realtors, the application was approved on October 6th, 1989.
